Scientific Software Engineer · R/Rust · Statistical Modelling

I build research software and open-source infrastructure that turn mathematical models and prototypes into systems people can run, inspect, and extend.

About

I am a developer, teacher, and researcher with a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology and an MSc in Statistics. I founded and maintain extendr, which bridges R and Rust. My research background is in epidemiological modelling, simulator-based inference, and spatial disease spread.

I build tooling and infrastructure that need to be technically rigorous, maintainable, and useful in practice. That includes open-source maintainership, research software, and the work of turning prototype code into systems other people can run, inspect, and extend, often in international and cross-disciplinary settings.

Current work

At A2-Ai I build scientific software in settings where modelling, data, and product constraints meet. Outside of work, I spend substantial time on R and Rust interoperability, package infrastructure, and the broader craft of making technical projects easier to maintain.

Active in the cph.rs community, Copenhagen’s monthly Rust meetup. Father of two.

Selected projects

Frictionless bindings between R and Rust. I founded the project and remain a core maintainer of the wider tooling around the R-Rust bridge.

RustRFFI

An R interpreter written in Rust with per-interpreter state, native C extension loading, and a growing compatibility corpus for real package code.
